You might be better recording the sound/noise to help us identify the potential cause.
As diff oil is inexpensive, and it is easy to change, I’d suggest you do that anyway given you don’t know when (if) it was last changed? Good luck ![]() |

A few tips, Make sure you undo the fill plug first, you don’t want to drain only to find the fill plug is stuck.
Before you do, purchase some magnetic diff plugs, they are cheap. Also some hylomar blue as a sealant when replacing plugs. And do not over torque on refitting. |

Hi
I hade a similar noise, that sounded like distant a helicopter, on my L322. At first I thought that it was the front diff but on the advice from a guy on the "Full Fat" forum I went for a drive and then temperature checked each brake caliper using a laser thermometer and found that the front drivers side caliper was partially seized. I rebuilt the caliper and no more helicopter.. Jim |

Still haven't had any luck in finding the cause.
Ive uploaded a clip of the noise - https://youtube.com/shorts/JKbd7Rfn0Mo?si=GoddpCuBRpg75YHV The noise only happens when decelerating. |

You could have trapped debris in the handbrake drum, but is a long shot…
Be aware that the Prop UJ’s may seem okay, but can be difficult to find a failed bearing in situ. Check for diff pinion horizontal and vertical movement for any play, there is possibility the bolt on that can be a bit loose, possibly transfer box side as well. Worth checking the DM’s and the splines on those, plus wheel bearings at the same time. WeWillWin🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

Thank you for your reply!
Drive train seems to be ok. Ive had it on stands to check and everything seems to be in good working order. I can also hear it when in N ticking over. Could this be an exhaust issue? The noise disappears when rolling and with the clutch down. |

See if the exhaust is knocking on anything, particularly to the rear, but exhaust in general both ends and manifold near CAT WeWillWin🇬🇧🇺🇸
