Temperature sensor / gauge on a 200tdi is different from the 19J and using the wrong sensor causes the issue that you mention.
But also check that your thermostat is not stuck open. If replacing thermostat, temperature should be 82dC. That should bring your temperature gauge just under the middle. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

As above it should sit around the middle.
There are various posts about 19j to 200tdi conversions where sensors used are detailed, you should be able to find something helpful searching those. Cheers James 110 2010 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

![]() Click image to enlarge I had a Smiths Oil Temperature gauge (and sensor) fitted during the rebuild of my 110 pickup. On the first long drive it indicated mid range temp. See photo. Lately, the needle barely moves. The sensor has a spade type connector which I note is not covered/insulated and also has some oil on it. Could that cause a loss of signal and under reading? 2003 Defender 90 TD5 SW 1989 Land Rover 110 19J Turbo Diesel PU |
