Rear Half Shafts Removed
Apologies that this is probably a stupid question!

I removed my rear half shafts so I can change my rear diff. But when I went to drive it up onto the ramps, I had no drive at all.

I thought the defender (2012 110) was permanent 4wd and so I would still get drive to the front wheels, even with the rear half shafts removed.

In the end, I accidentally left the handbrake on and this gave drive to the font wheels.

What am I missing!

You either need to put your transfer box into lock, or as you have, put your handbrake on. Otherwise the centre differential is “open” so it will spin the easiest.

As others have said - you need to lock your centre differential (diff lock) and you’ll be away.
It’s behaving correctly.

With the handbrake on, without center diff you will get an extra high gear as the center diff will spin the front prop 2x normal speed Rolling with laughter
Just dont do it for any long distance/speed. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing
