Another.. “Can you help me find where..”
Evening All,

After not using my 110 for a couple of months, I’ve been using her again for the last couple of weeks. The last few drives I’ve noticed a ‘whoop, whoop’ noice coming from the drivers seat area. To describe the sound - its not a metal on metal sound, it sounds like there is something stuck in to tyre tread. It happens mostly when I'm decelerating.

Ive had a look underneath the truck and around that area. Prop shafts a good. Theres no sign of oil leaks from the front diff. Theres also nothing wedge between the brake calliper/disc.

After some searching online, most replies state its probably the front diff. Since owning the landrover(10k miles since purchase) i haven’t changed the diff oil or have proof the perivous owners did before me. My plan was to drain the front(and back, may as well) check to see if theres any metal shavings, re fill with new oil and go from there?

Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you

You might be better recording the sound/noise to help us identify the potential cause.

As diff oil is inexpensive, and it is easy to change, I’d suggest you do that anyway given you don’t know when (if) it was last changed?

Good luck Thumbs Up

A few tips, Make sure you undo the fill plug first, you don’t want to drain only to find the fill plug is stuck.

Before you do, purchase some magnetic diff plugs, they are cheap. Also some hylomar blue as a sealant when replacing plugs. And do not over torque on refitting.

Hi

I hade a similar noise, that sounded like distant a helicopter, on my L322.

At first I thought that it was the front diff but on the advice from a guy on the "Full Fat" forum I went for a drive and then temperature checked each brake caliper using a laser thermometer and found that the front drivers side caliper was partially seized.

I rebuilt the caliper and no more helicopter..
