Subwoofer in battery box under seat?
Hey friends. I was watching a Youtube video, in which a guy put a powered sub in the battery box, next to the battery under the seat. I love this idea and was wondering if anyone else has attempted this?

tbh seems completely the wrong kind of vehicle to be worrying about subs.... I don't even have a working stereo in the 90! Rolling with laughter

Not best best place imo. Prone to water ingress and the reverb off the body would be awful.

Best spot is back of the cubby or under the resr seats if a 110

As above, not an ideal location, you might be able to mount in the lid though, but you’d need a passive set up.
The trouble is your need to custom make the plates, as in my opinion it’d be too thin, also your struggle to fit more than 8” or 10”
You’d also need to ensure basket / magnet clearance to the rear, shallow mount might work though depends on the depth available.
There isn’t much excursion room above either as the seats sit low, so you’d have to look at custom fabrication, there is the front seatbox face, but dia is limited, possibly too limited. TheThunderRolls🇬🇧🇺🇸

I just wonder what kind of music matches the personality of someone who would put high-end sound equipment in a truck.

I'm betting heavy metal or wannabe gangsta rap. Your guess? Your own music?

I see you are in CA, I doubt damp or water are likely to be issues and I've not personally seen any water in the battery box before. Although they are prone to rotting out, so may have holes to the outside, which might be where some people see water ingress, esp if they then do deep water wading.

On my vehicles I've often used the space under the seat for some additional storage, such as a set of jump leads, power steering fluid and some other spares that have been handy from time to time.

There are limited locations to safely put any kind of sub in a Defender, so I can see this potentially working. Although I've also often added sound proofing material on the seatbox, so the bass might end up being a bit muffled being in a sealed box under the seat. But you'd really need to give it a try.

You'd also want to make sure you leave a big enough hole to get the battery in and out of. The battery sits offset, so it sort of comes out at an angle from the opening. I also normally run a larger battery, so you often need more room to lift it in and out.

Best place3 is under cubby box with lots of sound deadening on seat box, but if you must hide it away then electric box under drivers seat with a speaker grille fitted to cover plate.
