The hi/lo switch definitely alters the engine revs for sure and I know I have one as I have just changed the transfer case for a reconned one and the switch is in.

What needs to be considered here is whether there is a voltage across the two contacts A & K, as indicated in the photo, when low range is selected, which is not present when high range is selected. Assuming there is a voltage present, then I would have thought it was possible to solder in an appropriate sized LED. But, it wont be something I will be doing as it seems a bit superfluous.

The high/low can't be made functional just by fitting an LED, there's no software functionality in the cluster to drive it.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

But can it be programmed to work, given that there is a socket on the board??

Yes.....but would require specialist equipment and knowledge. It’s not the sort of thing a GAP IDTool, Nanocom, or I’m pretty certain even dealer diagnostic tools could do retrospectively.

Dealer diagnostics could do it to a new RoW IPAC built to have this Hi/Lo capability as a working function with an appropriate IPAC software build. But that still requires a lot of detailed knowledge on Puma IPAC programming that I suspect most dealer technicians are no longer familiar with.

It’s a cluster/LR engineer level task, not dealer tech. It’s writing new software for the cluster to include the function to activate the lamp based on an input.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Cheers... that's what i was wondering..
So it's not a configurable option with the right tool in its normal set up..👍
