Air box filter and Mod
Morning

I replaced our Air Filter yesterday on our 2.4 puma. Genuine land Rover filter.... Its definitely smoother, so happy with that .My next question is , the little impeller style thing in the airbox is it worth removing? We have a snorkel on at the moment but have seen comments of improvement.

Also would it need mapping if this was removed

Best regards

The little impeller thing is there to give motion to the air to separate moisture..
I think if you have a close look you will see an outer tube within the housing which has a drain to remove any moisture separated..

I followed black wolfs suggestion and fitted a centrifugal separator at the rai inlet and then removed that little vane..
I can not say with any real certainty how effective the centrifugal separator is on my rai but on a recent trip where we were sometimes driving in dust where at times you could hardly see beyond the end of the bonnet, my filter didn't appear to be as bad as I would have expected when removed..
There are threads on the surgery some carry out on the standard filter to improve air flow..👍

some pictures at the end of the thread linked to of the air box....
only connection to a remap would be the improved air flow capability, if it was required..

So now the RAI is fitted with the larger diameter pipe, Is there any reason to cut anything out the air box or can i just remove the 'Fan'

Does your RAI have a cyclonic precleaner to spin the moisture out, and have you replaced the hopelessly inadequate ducting between the wing and the airbox? If not, then leave the original centrifugal separator in place since you will get moisture in the airbox.

If your RAI does have a precleaner and you have replaced the ducting with a sealed pipe then I would suggest doing the full airbox mod (so remove the stator and cut out most of the other restrictive parts) in order to get the best performance you can.
