Engine oil 0-20 or 0-30
I want to change the engine oil and filter on my 2000 mile D350.

When researching here and other sources, the information changes.

0-20 and 0-30 are recommended depending on the poster.
Is there a definitive correct choice.

To confuse things, Castrol Edge Pro (with titanium) 0-30 displays the correct JLR..... Code but the websites that recognise your car make and model also say that's the incorrect oil for your car and you should buy 0-20.

Hi

0W20 seems a little thin to me and would only notionally cover your vehicle up to an ambient air temperature of 20C. That said I have only ever owned a D250 briefly and never had to service it.

In recent years manufacturers appear to be recommending thinner oils so that operational temperatures are reached quicker and there is less drag on engine internals to reduce emissions.

Specification is the most important element rather than viscosity

SAE 0W-30 meeting Jaguar Land Rover specification STJLR.03.5007

0w-20 is petrol. I suggest, for a voluntary change to tick to spec, you can buy it from the dealer if you can’t get it locally Mike

How do you tell the car it's had new oil for these interim oil changes? Still not figured that out.

That's what I was thinking but how does the engine know it's had new oil for the "dilution" calculations? MY25 90 D350 X-Dynamic HSE in Silicon Silver and coil sprung

I’ve always used 0-30 as specified in the manual.

IIDtool can reset the service indicator. I always reset it even on interim changes.

Thanks everyone.

I ignored some websites saying 0w 30 was incorrect for my vehicle.

Ordered 8l of Castrol Edge Pro with titanium STJLR.03.5007

Opie oils have a 15% discount off at the moment works out at Β£12.70 per litre

Does that work even though oil service required not showing on dashboard? So, change oil then go into instrument menu and just press reset? MY25 90 D350 X-Dynamic HSE in Silicon Silver and coil sprung

Yes. It just resets the counter to 21,000 miles.
