Got quite a bit of corrosion around the Air Con 'condenser' mounting brackets, I bought a new stainless steel frame and 4 brackets.
The original brackets are each fitted to the core with 4 pop rivets, I'm wondering what they are actually attached to and if I'm in danger of damaging or destroying the core by interfering with them? Sorry if this sounds a bit lame but the cost of a new core is significant in my world ![]() |

You will have to be careful drilling out the rivets. It would be easy to also drill through the condenser which would blow your budget.

I have done it to mine, although I galvanized the original brackets, as stainless can promote galvanic corrosion.
It can be intimidating to drill the rivets, but as long as you keep your drill as perpendicular as possible, and set drill bit all the way in chuck so its short and you cannot reach the intercooler, you will be good. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Thanks! I was wondering what the rivets are fixing too? Is there a plate on the core itself that the rivets hold on to? A man with no boat is a prisoner

Yes, there is a plate that is welded to the core. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Just to report that I attempted the bracket change using the YRM stainless ones. Lovely product but sadly managed to nick the condenser with the drill bit and lost all the gas. Had to order a whole new assembly. £700 Heed all warnings with the drill bit!! 2015 90 XS Santorini Black

Your local aluminum welder could sort that.

Hi
If you go for one of the aftermarket condensers you are better off replacing the fan with a larger one rather than trying to fit the original LR fan. The larger condenser and fan will also make your A/C way more effective. Also, give the 4 fan brackets a quick coat of black paint as it tidies everything up nicely and you wont see the brackets once the grill is back on. Jim |

Maltings tend to sell fairly decent after market parts and I see that it is branded as "Eurospares"
The other Ebay link says that the condenser is unbranded. Jim |
