Are you sure it’s not the e-brake engaging/disengaging? If so, Mine does the same.

Mikod I rejected my first D350 and I am now 4 weeks in to the replacement D350 and I can 100% confirm that the new one has none of the problems and it is not what all new defenders do. MY25.5 Defender 90 D350 X Dynamic HSE - Maximus

Apologies, just listened back to the video. Can hear the e-brake engaging but then also the separate hiss after. Sadly no idea, what it could be; only hiss I have is from the air compressor for the bags.
Had LR Assist out this morning, told me rolling back was normal; didn’t argue with them but I’ve never had it in any other of the 6 autos I’ve had… |

My rejected defender did have lots of whirring, clunking from the EPB. Land Rover assist said it was worryingly noisy but LR dealer said normal.
Whether it was part of the problem we’ll never know🤷🏼♀️. The replacement D350 certainly doesn’t make these noises. MY25.5 Defender 90 D350 X Dynamic HSE - Maximus MY25 Defender 90 D350 X Dynamic HSE - Boris - REJECTED ![]() MY18 Discovery 5 3.0ltr TD6 HSE Lux - Derek |

No they haven't deleted the 3 second hold (even with auto hold off). That's exactly how the tech that I took at, said to drive. So basically papering over the crack. |

Well, my 2022 has a three second hold after you release the brake pedal even with "auto hold" turned off.
So it's either been deleted or it should still be there and it's a software issue somewhere. |

I'd suggest he is talking cobblers! The Grenadier (which I believe has the same ZF gearbox) does not roll backwards under these conditions which suggests that there is no technical reason for it to happen, other than JLR incompetence. |

To answer an earlier question...Autohold (which i have on and originally thought it was) doesnt solve it, and doesnt apply or activate every time for example at start up and even if you use auto hold and do all the little tricks like slower move from brake to accelerator etc it creates other problems. Land rover are saying its normal...its normal from a point in the defender production say 23MY, in so far as they all do it...but its not working as its should so is not correct. I maintain its dangerous Mike |

Auto hold is a red herring and auto hold doesnt solve the main problem as, for example, when you start the car auto hold wont engage. I think its not gear box, its something like the smart drive system where its sending power front/back or all 4wd or similar, nothing to do with the box. Mike |

I agree. Especially as my drive is on a slope & as you point out, the auto hold doesn't engage at initial startup/pull-off. Though for me the biggest issue is delay when pulling at out busy junctions. Strangely what I don't have any issue with, is shifting through the gears on either gentle or spirited acceleration or clunking/jerking at low speeds (Like Flinders had); mine is very smooth in that regard... I feel the "they all do that" is a massive cop out & as the kids now say, "gaslighting" folks with the issue. it's not normal or acceptable behaviour for an auto transmission. |
