Intermittent electrical issue - key fob now won't work
Hi, I'm looking for some help with regards an issue that's arisen on my 2014 Defender 90.

Basically, a couple of times recently when unlocking and re-starting the vehicle I have noticed the trip odometer has re-set to zero. The main odometer is all as normal. This itself is obviously a bit weird - it's happened around 3/4 times in recent weeks, but not all the time.

Today when locking my vehicle the alarm went off. It wouldn't let me stop it via the key fob, which seemed to not work. After some frantic pressing of buttons and putting the key in the ignition it stopped, however the key fob no longer works to lock / unlock the car and the immobiliser is now rendering the vehicle....... immobile. Lights come on with the key, but it won't turn on.

Main issues now are a) I can't take it anywhere to get someone to look at it, and b) concerned that if I resolve the fob with a re-code or something (idea from other posts), it could happen again and get stranded if I can't sort this intermittent issue, which I assume is the root cause of the problem.

Has anyone experienced anything like this and got any ideas as to how to resolve?

Battery could be going under due to parasitic drain or age, or more likely ground issue or loose battery post or transmission ground stud. ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️

I agree with custom90, loosen negative cable on battery post , tap it down gently and re tighten. Also check other main earths. It’s very likely one is loose or making a bad contact.
Else if it’s the original battery it is likely that it’s no longer holding sufficient charge, put a meter on the battery to see if it has circa 12.4Volts, if a lot lower then it’s likely a failed battery.
If you have access to another vehicle and jump leads, or something like a Noco jump starter, you can see if it will jump start.
