1995 Defender 110 300 Tdi CSW Coniston Green

Rear wiper switch

Hello,
Recently when I was traveling in Scotland, I had my long spans modified, that's for context. When the front panel switch cables were modified, to have an easier access, was disconnected the rear wiper switch cables.

The problem is that when I look at the wiring diagram, whether on LRWorkshop or in the technical review, I can't find the right order and placement of the cables. The fuses blow because the connections aren't right. I managed to do it once, but don't ask how, the ON position was on the OFF position and vice versa.

Anyway, I'm calling on your expertise (electricity really isn't my thing), to find out which cables in which colors plug in where. I've attached a photo to make it easier.

I have:

- Green wire
- Green / Red wire
- Brown
- Green / Black wire

Subsidiary question: Is it possible that it's the relay that's blowing the fuse?

Thanks for the diagram Andy, unfortunately I'm sucking to read properly electrical diagrams and, if I'm not mistaken, wire's colors seems to being the same

(I have other qualities, at least I think so, but electrical diagrams are not one of them.)

Your wire colours don’t look like the drawings I have.

Mine show.

Switch
White + green = power in to washer switch
Black + light green = power out to washer motor.
Black = negative to wiper switch
Black + green = negative out to wiper relay.

Relay.
White + green = relay power. Pin 87, and pin 85
Black + green = negative from switch. Pin 86
Red + green = power out to motor. Pin 30
Brown + light green = live out to park switch. Pin 87a

This is from a late Tdi, Td5 wire diagrams. Yours may be older. If so you will need help from others.

Just found older diagrams and will sort out later for you once downloaded and written down.
look to have same colours as you.

Do you have numbers on your switch terminals?

Black and light green = power to wash motor. Terminal c917
Green = power, to both wash and wipe. Terminal c918 That would be where there is also the black wire joined on the switch terminal.
Brown and light green = power to motor park switch. Terminal c916
Red and light green = power to wiper motor. Terminal c915

I just have a look, I have numbers but not the one that appears on the diagram. I made you a quick drawing. Instead of ENGLAND - LUCAS, I've 2, 3 and 4 that appear on the switch.

One of the wires of the base part. (Your numbers 2, 3, or 4) is joined to a terminal via black wire to a terminal on the higher part (NEXT to your un numbered terminal. Assume T1) that will want the green wire going to it which is the fused supply for rear wash wipe. Your un numbered terminal next to it wants black and light green going to it which provides power to the washer motor.

So you have 2 terminals remaining (depending on which of yours has black going to it) but think that is terminal 4

Brown and light green to terminal 3
Red and light green to terminal 2

From a diagram to another one, from a def to another, wire are not always the same colors and it was a massive struggle (at least for me).

I actually enjoyed looking into it a researching something I didn’t know about. I would have sorted it old school with multimeter normally but it’s good to get the brain working
