I've had them for a few years with no problem.
From memory the MT stands for maximum traction as they are not strictly a mud tyre. You should be fine. Steve Defender 90 TD5 Station Wagon Discovery 3 HSE BMW 330i Coupe |

My second favourite tyre after the bfg. The at2 version are pretty good had those on a d3 worked pretty well.
The MTR goodyear tyre have been very good but my spare is now a BFG because I just couldn't get hold of a new MTR. Ultimately it depends what you are going to do with your 110. I spend a fair bit of time on muddy sites and fields so need the extra traction. If that wasn't the case I would go dura trak or bfg AT. These are better on road and use less fuel. |

What do you mean by a "bit weedy" - the tread isn't deep enough or that the tyres are just not wide enough?

by 'weedy' I meant it looks a little skinny on the wolf wheel with that offset on a 110 UW when compared with the wrangler MT/R which has chunky side lugs and is a little wider looking than the GG AT2. However the GGAT2 looks great on the old HiCap on the modular steels with bigger offsets that's on that. I want to stick with 235s on Wolfs on the 110 UW as don't want the mud up the side you get with 265s. If the GG AT2s came in 245 or 255 85 - they would have been ideal.

I like wolfs (particularly with Keswick)
and can't run 265's on a wolf rim I think! Click image to enlarge |

I run 235 MTRs on my 110 except ... I put snow/winter tyres on for the winter (cooper snow) and when running around Europe road biased tyres, MTRs howl too much on the motorway

Put a pair of each on and gradually go faster and faster around your local country roads. When you eventually go into the ditch forwards or backwards - you will then have your answer.
MTrs did me proud last winter but they it wasn't a particularly bad one. |

Chatting with my local tyre fitter yesterday, he remarked on the MT/R's being very capable tyres but they weren't his top tip for cold weather/icy roads - not strictly a winter tyre in terms of the compound (not the tread - which seems competent for driving through virgin snow). He then pointed me in the direction of other brands that specialise in cold weather, freezing conditions and heavy rain - have to say the compound technology might be impressive but they kind of looked a bit dull and uninteresting.
Which reminded me of ericv's winter tyres in Switzerland - where it's not all about having big broad tyres with chunky treads like a tractor. |

I'm tempted to replace the 235 Conti's on my 110 XS S/Wagon with a set of Cooper ST Maxx. Good all round performance is more important to me than out and out mud plugging. The ST Maxx are supposed to have the ice/mountain symbol with a compound suitable for colder weather. The looks are secondary. I just want something that will be pretty good in all conditions. I could go down the out and out winter tyre route, but how would they perform on grass and mud? I don't want to be changing between winter tyres and summer each season.
There is still plenty of tread on the original Conti's so I might wait for the snow to arrive and then see how they perform. Decisions, decisions. |

I'd definitely go for Cooper AT3s that are supposed to be amazing - everything i've heard about them for winter, tarmac, light off road etc has ben amazing.

I have has these tyres on my last two Defenders through a mix of winter weathers. I travel regularly to the west coast of Scotland through snow, lots of rain, wind, sleet, mud etc and these tyres have been in my opinion "outstanding" they were the first thing i changed when I got my lastest one. I feel very secure with these tyres on. Hope this helps... LR Defender 110 XS Utility Wagon

Thanks SaltyDog - by 'these tyres' I presume you're meaning OEM Wrangler MT/Rs? A relief to know you're happy with them.
