From memory the MT stands for maximum traction as they are not strictly a mud tyre.

Within the Goodyear LT range they are the most "extreme" or perhaps I should say best suited mud tyre, although I have read that there genesis and development was initially rock crawling in the US.

Not sure if it is still current but they were used on the vehicle that got the world altitude record in 2007 - http://www.goodyear.eu/uk_en/news/82630-ge...=four_four

It's interesting that they still have such a high profile when they were updated with the Goodyear Wrangler MT/R with Kevlar Sidewall which has a completely different tread pattern:

Tyres
Yip I bought them locally but they are the same tyres as fitted with OEM wheels like the Sawtooth alloy. Our weather in Aberdeenshire the last week has been really wet and windy and these tyres perform really well, through big puddles they seem to disperse the water really well too. LR Defender 110 XS Utility Wagon

Like saltydog says - driving through puddles and on flooded sections of road - these tyres seem to disperse the water rather well.

Now I want some heavy snow to see how they perform .....

There seems to be a shortage of these in the UK at the moment, have they been discontinued?
