Morning
Blimey! You lot in Oxford are posh, I normally do all my servicing laying on my back on a gravel drive I live up in Bedfordshire and don't often venture down the M40 that frequently. If you get no takers you are welcome to drive up to me and I will gladly assist, but you will have to kneel on 20mm gravel. If you are lucky I may have some old cardboard to lay on... You may want to update your profile so that it shows the year and type of Defender you own. Thanks Jim, that’s a kind offer and if no-one replies I’d like to take up your offer
Not sure posh - I live on a main road with no off-street parking and on a hill, so need some place else. And, I thought using a lift would give me the chance to check chassis, etc thoroughly. Thanks for your guidance on ‘currency’ - beer or something similar, it is. Thanks. |

My advice would be to only use good quality filters and oils, so no Britpart stuff.
Maltings are selling a genuine LR filter kit over on Ebay. If you ask for the Maltings trade club price they will knock another few £'s off the advertised price. Otherwise I would look at a Mann oil, air and fuel filter kit. Opie Oils are a good one stop shop and will give you a discount if to tell them that you are a forum member. Check the condition of your auxiliary belt as mine was very close to failure when I picked my Puma up. Jim |

The red box Britpart service kits are good quality, always get the right fluids as recommended.
Top tip. Always loosen and remove the fill cap of diffs, gearbox and transfer box before dropping the fluid, makes it flow better but more importantly you don’t want to drop the fluids before realising the fill cap is seized. |

Hi Leighton.
I’m (based on G maps) about 40 mins from the rent a ramp. (That is posh ) Personally I’d only use genuine filters, oils, well there’s pages of debate on here, so you’ll make your own choices. I’m happy to come down and support. I assume you’ve got to take your own tooling and you’ve that covered; noting the fun of pumping the oil back in the boxes/diffs etc? When are you thinking of doing this? There maybe closer people yet waiting to throw their overalls in the arena..
