Mine used to do that, turns out the top mount bearing had failed. Shafski

Another thought: possibly a binding brake calliper on one side? Charlie

Where is the top mount bearing on a Defender ???
What’s the steering box centred when it was tracked? Or have they just tracked the wheels to each other? |

I had two vehicles do this for years. Both were related to the tyres. Stupidly cured one vehicle and put the same brand / tyre on the other..... and had the same problem.

Different tread depth, tyre age, balance etc can do these kind of things. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Ideally on a ramp, stick a lever bar in between the axle and the radius arm and apply some pressure. Compare one side to the other. When the tracking was done did they check the steering wheel position relative to road wheel position and the condition of all the ball joints etc? Is it under load or braking it's most noticeable, or does it follow camber or poor road surfaces? -Check the panhard rod bushes -Check tyre pressures and wear condition all round -Check for wear in the swivel pins -Check for wear in the a frame bushes, trailing arms and a frame ball joint- the bushes on the a-frame in particular can give a weird passive rear-wheel steering and pulling feeling as they deteriorate. Hope some of this helps, it can be a pain to track down the cause on defenders as it's often cumulative things. Chris |

All the above but also do you trust whoever did your wheel alignment? I only ask as I was having issues despite getting it done multiple times and it was only sorted when I took it to a motorsport and Defender specialist. It was a revelation and has gone from wayward to handling on rails. WARNING.

Might be worth removing the steering damper and cycling the travel to ensure that it is moving as it should.
Secondly, is your damper a version fitted with a spring, the yoke that holds it does have a habit of allowing the spring to rotate, come out of the yoke and push the steering to one side. Failing that you could try a tyre rotation. |

How can I check this top swivel pin bearing? When hacked up and on axle stands the wheel/steering feels solid. |

Yes 100% more noticeable when accelerating or braking and on poor road surfaces: |
