Siwynne, there is no FOB and the immobilizer is bypassed. How would the battery or immobilizer system interrupt fuel getting to the rail?[/quote]

Are you getting a correct (low) coolant gauge position and a battery + oil warning light on the cluster when you key on? 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Martin, coolant is pegged at the bottom and battery oil light is on if I remember right.

The order in which the battery terminals are disconnected and reconnected cannot make the slightest difference (nothing on the vehicle can determine which order you've used). The only reason why good practice dictates disconnect earth first and reconnect earth last is to reduce the risk of shorting the battery by grounding the non-ground terminal with a tool. |

Car came back from another mechanic who confirmed immobilizer was set to off.
Could the VCV suddenly have complete failure and prevent fuel from getting to the rail? Trying to eliminate options here. Never had any limp mode, power loss, etc. before it suddenly stopped starting. |

Well after a week at the mechanics with no progress I rolled my sleeves up and got busy. Long story but in the end... air in the fuel line caused air lock at the pump in the motor (2.4 so no pump in fuel tank). Thanks for all who contributed to this weird issue that shows no reason for happening.
