Rear seats in a 110
Hello,

I've just bought a rather nice 2013 2.2 Puma 110 Utility, with full air suspension amongst other goodies.

A simple question though - the rear seats, the single seat has a backrest that sits at a reasonable angle, but the double seat has a backrest that is near enough bolt upright. Has anyone else's Defender got this or is it a fix needed with mine? Seems odd that the 2 backrests don't sit at the same angle! The release lever is free, both seats fold up & down with no problems.

Cheers

Geoff

On my 2013 2.2 110 the backrests are at the same angle.

I'm not sure what needs adjusting on yours but something does.

That's what I suspected, thanks!

The DC second row seats are more upright than the SW/USW seats. Is it possible one's been changed?

I doubt it - they were given a posh retrim when new (it was demo show vehicle for ACHSV) and it's only done 27k miles. I think I'll have to just take it apart and take a look!

Took the seat apart today to work out what is wrong, and the answer is....nothing. It all appears to work exactly as LR intended. I think blackwolf wins the prize though - I'm sure it's the original seat, I think LR fitted the large seat that was meant for a double cab, and the small seat that was meant for - as it should be - the Utility!! Rolling Eyes

Those that have got Utilities or Station Wagons, when your large back seat is in it's usual upright position, can the back rock backwards and forwards an inch or two? My small seat can, but the large seat locks solid.

I think you probably answered the question the first time.
As much as we moan about LR's issues, the fault here is more likely when multiple vehicles are stripped down for retrimming, parts get mixed and don't necessarily get put back in the same vehicle.

There was a thread on here recently that highlighted that the front hinge brackets are also different between the SW and DC seats. That may have something to do with the seat rocking backwards and forwards.

My 2003 DC (dual cab pickup - aka crew cab) had the rear seats fixed on a bracket, but I had the latching mechanism of a stationwagen laying around so I refitted that

Did not really see any difference in angle and now I can much easier reach behind the seats.

As I write this I realise they are obviously different seats altogether - darn it 3 minutes of life I never get back .

Yes, a mixup at the trimmers is a possibility. Front hinges are different to the ones on that thread, mine have a spring in them, think they must be the SW ones.

On the small seat, it's not the whole seat that can move backwards and forwards, it's just the backrest - put it upright and it clicks to indicate the lock has engaged about a couple of inches, measured at the top, before the seat is fully reclined. It's stiff enough so it doesn't move under braking, it appears to be designed like that, nore sure if other SW / Utiliites are the same?

I really need to look at another Defender, I'm at Alive Tuning on Thursday, hopefully they might have another 110 Utlity or SW for me to poke around! Failing that a local dealer has got a blinged-up "Urban" Defender in stock for silly money, not my thing at all but might go and have a nosey!

Im sure I saw a thread a while back that showed the only key difference between the seats in a DC or SW was an additional stop in the DC hinge to prevent it reclining as far as the SW.

https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic12144-15.html

But I think there might be a difference on the base fixing bracket as well 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone
2002 - Black Discovery II - Gone
2014 - Montalcino Red 110 XS SW
