Bluest, took the new pads out and put sandpaper in between the pads rubbed together to take off some material and thought i cleaned them up, no difference.
put the old pads back in the new calipers , no difference lol. i hear what you say about trying new pads .
i am almost 100% sure there in no air in the system as every time i have pressure bleed them there in no air coming out.
the frustrating thing is the old brakes were very good but the new ones have no stopping power at normal road speed, in a car park at say 10 mph there very good ??????

Hi Mark, similar situation. Did you fit it yourself? If so (or if not, do you know) did you fit the power assist thingy in the pedal box? Mine definitely doesn't look as if it has been opened.

Does anyone else know if the LOF power assist thingy is for all braking systems or just ABS?

PS. Still haven't found the time to check bleed the system. Monsieur Le Grenadier

I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list.....

i fitted everything myself and am very confident in doing so. i expected the brakes to need bedding in but after 600 miles and no real improvment thats why i though the pads might be contaminated hence the changing them to eliminate any possible causes.
But to hear others are having the same issue ?????
As i cant pinpoint what is wrong i might strip all the brakes off and start again as i cant see why the brakes are so poor, i have a hard time beliving that LOF kit is at fault.

I’ve bled my brakes probably 30 times. Litres and litres af fluid through mine multiple times. Power bled, primed via nanocom. Pressure bled, old fashioned foot bled, and reverse bled. Pulled off master cylinder, and adjusted. Swapped to braided hoses, have swapped ALL wheel bearings to new. Swapped to new rear brake callipers, but old were working. I’ve now got a slight improvement by fitting the LOF fast road pads instead of their basic pads, and a slightly better pedal after adjusting master cylinder.

But still not brakes I’m happy with.

Any update to these issues? Thinking about ordering a full set of calipers, discs and pads.

i got round to swapping the Lof brake pads to Ebc green stuff and there was an vast improvement as there is immediate grab of the brakes, caught be by suprise at first lol.
i have only done a few miles at gentle braking as i have to bed the pads in. but it all points to the Lof pads not being very good at all which is a shame

Interesting. I’ve recently swapped across to the higher performance LOF pads, and also notice an improvement. Not a night and day change but an improvement. Maybe I will try something else.

Certainly interesting.

Thanks for info Thumbs Up

final update, Ebc green stuff pads bedded in and i can now lock up all 4 brakes in the dry with out having to really stamp on the pedal so i now have nice powerful brakes and lots of feedback.
So the Lof pads i had were the cause of my problems.

Interesting. Thanks for taking the time and letting us know.

As said above I’ve swapped to the LOF Performance ones, and got a small improvement.

Which LOF pads were you running before swapping to EBC?

What is the cost like with EBC

I had the power spec discs and pads, dimpled and groved discs which are ok, the Ebc green stuff pads were £110 for front and rear. i understand that there a softer pad but i only do about 3000 miles a year so they should last me a while lol
Having strong brakes makes driving so much better .

Think I may have to swap mine across to EBC as you were also “power spec” stuff.

I’m running the power spec discs, pads, and ss callipers all round.

Right guys. Not been in on this thread from the start but......

Standard Defender brakes are pretty awesome without fooking around on 'upgrades' when they are working correctly. I'm running 33" tyres so pushing brakes pretty hard.

I have an early 300tdi with discs all-round. Twice in 10yrs I have found the brakes lacking. First time was due to a cracked servo losing vacuum. 2nd time just recently was due to brake pulling and found a leaking caliper had ruined brake pads on one side with fluid contamination. Solved with Britpart S/S pistons and genuine seals caliper rebuild,

Always run Mintex or Delco standard pads.

Just for context, my standard tune 300tdi runs like a dream, often easily hits 85mph (like every week when commuting) and handles/brakes predictably with OEM rubber bushes etc. You really don't need to do much more, Landrover got it right first time so if you are having to fit 'upgraded' parts to achieve safe braking/handling there is clearly something else wrong and you should look at fixing that first!

I agree with all above, although will add heavy vehicles, those towing alot and performance upgrades do add the requirement.

Std brakes are more than capable of locking up 33s in my experience. Cheers

Agree with JST above, I think the standard brakes are good to be honest.

If you do make changes though you’ll have to think about the long term effects of that, such as pad performance when cold or hot, grooved discs, if abrasive conditions are considered where they’ll increase pad wear or if drilled rotors a build up mud in them.
Things like that, regardless of brakes, tyres matter a lot too as they will lock up.
