Missing screw - engine bottom

Hello,

my Defender 1997 TDI300 110 from UK is missing screw at the bottom of the engine. I am unable to find it in catalog part. I presume its hole to check oil level but its not Oil Sump Bolt screw. Can anybody help me identify part number?

That’s the timing cover wading plug hole.

There should be a plug in there to stop water getting in whilst wading, and you should not be getting any oil out of it. Some run with plug in all the time, other run without it fitted, until they wade.

Easily fit another. 1/2 BSP Plug. Just google LR wading plug

2007 Defender 110 300 Tdi SW Chawton White

It's a good idea to once in a while look into this hole and look for black fibres.

This will give you a indication if the timing belt is chafing itself to destruction.

Only install plug when you are going to be wading.
