Mud Stuff Heater Box
Hello,
I've just bagged myself a used Eberspacher D1 diesel heater. I had a bit of a search on this wonderful forum for 'installation ideas' and saw the Mud Stuff Heater box.
This is an ideal solution - apart from the bloody price 😬.
As it sits below the cubby box it raises the cubby box height by 140mm.

Can anybody that has a raised cubby box (for whatever reason) tell me if this extra height makes it awkward to shift between High and Low on the T/box..??
With the aid of a steel rule and my imagination (not my strongpoint) it looks like it might...

As always, many thanks.

Yes, the extra height was a bit uncomfortable for me, so I cut about 10cm of the sides the box and using the old hinges and catches made a new lid. Depending on what box you have, you should be able to peel back the side coverings and reuse. New covering only needed for lid.

That’s a neat solution. Nice work. WARNING.

Yes, a lovely job and thank you..😁

It does, however, make the thought of spending almost Β£100 on a small metal box that I then have to 'modify' even less palatable.... πŸ˜€

Nothing's ever easy or straightforward, is it..??

I really wish that I'd cut my Bulkhead down a bit now, like I WAS going to. I could have moved both boxes back a couple of inches....
Oh well, there's probably a lesson in there somewhere....

Thanks again,

it can be awkward if you have water/coffee in the cup holders. But I've got used to it

Thank you...πŸ‘πŸ‘

I guess the compromise is worth it.
Staying warm every time I drive in the Winter vs a little awkwardness on the couple of times we go out Green laning per year.

Thanks for the responses.

I have the Mud under cubby Sub Locker and it after installing it was awkward changing gear if I had a water bottle or a coffee cup in the holder.

Ended up having to swap it about from one side to the other when driving stop start for 1st into 2nd or A roads 5th to 6th.

After our holiday I decided to modify the cubby box to move it back by drilling new holes, only after drilling the new holes did I realise that the lid on the sub locker is offset and turning it 180 degrees it fits better, the cubby slightly overhangs into the middle row, but it doesn't get in the way when changing gear. Craig.

I found that on the Puma, the cubby was in the way of the range selector even before I installed an under-cubby safe.
Solution was to move the safe & cubby back a bit and find some lower cups for the cupholder.

Thanks again for the various responses. There's definitely a recurring theme here... πŸ€”

I was baulking at paying Β£100 for a small metal box and I really am now that I know I'll have to get 'modifying'. Are there any other alternatives..??

I think Bill1919 modified the LR cubby box, not the Mudstuff one.
