Julian long tall and blue
So just over a year ago I was offered “Julian” from a friend of mine as it was just sat in his workshop doing nothing.

Now it left Landrover as a 2.5td hard top and over the years changed to a 300tdi R380 with an early wagon body with sold rear panels to make a utility wagon.

First job was to clean it dusty as hell inside and out from storage

So the big wash revealed an issue. Over time most of the seals around the doors and between body panels had deteriorated letting in water. You could see daylight sat inside the rear where the sides met the cappings. So out came the silkaflex around the roof alpine lights.
Once it was watertight (well more watertight than it was) work started on the interior previously it was all bare metal inside with only some rubber mats in the front foot wells this made the interior cold damp and loud.

So the inside was covered first with 2mm silent coat sound deadening then the side panels with a 10mm closed cell firm that was an off cut from work before being trimmed in a black “carpet” again from work offcut from a job we did.

Then I trimmed the rest in more black with some decking effect stipe for the rear footwell

Then off came the door cards and silent coat and foam was applied to these the top half of the cards are missing so covered the exposed metal with a strip of black

All this has vastly improved the interior whilst it’s not whisper quiet I can now talk to my daughter in the back at reasonable speeds

We went camping in the summer so I made a shelf across the wheelboxes to allow a flat floor and storage underneath. Also allowed me to get the fridge and “kitchen” in

A few changes have been done inside.
A Tmax duel battery system with twin batteries and an auxiliary fuse box. Unfortunately fitting the second battery revealed some rust to the bottom of the battery box I’ve patched the holes for now and will replace in the future. Possibly with a deeper YRM version.

All new bearmach door seals fitted but still have a water ingress issue on drivers front. Suspect it’s something to do with the roof and gutter.

Added a camp cover saddle bag for added storage nice bit of kit well made and replaced the dash binnacle with a raptor metal one as the plastic had all broken on the original. I’m less impressed with this the finish is great but the fit isn’t a lot of time has been spent getting it reasonably well fitting.

Found my series fume curtain and placed it on the cargo barrier. Helps the cab warm up a bit quicker and with a set of eBay heated seat covers I’m ready for the worst of winter

Finally on the outside I fitted a full HD brownchurch roof rack. It came with the extra strengthening legs to the waistline but they don’ t fit with the older screen hinges. I already put it too work for a couple of jobs putting stone down in some pony gateways

Splashed out and treated myself to a new radio. Gone for a Chinese android unit single din with a 9” touchscreen. I was set on a 7” screen but the 9 was cheaper and hey 2 extra inches isn’t to be turned down.

Went for a unit that had a physical volume knob as thought be easier to use in a Bumpy Landrover.
Bonus of the unit screen is can be used with google play store so can run mapping software for greenlaning.

Also we went camping and it rained. Trusty tarp came to the rescue who needs expensive awnings?

So after suffering. Dreaded diesel runaway a new turbo and head gasket have been fitted. Also picked up some new(to me) exmoor trim high back rear seats. They do nothing for the legroom but better for necks and backs than the low originals.
Also a fresh MOT with just headlight aim and a small oil leak being the only issues
