With the Nfu car policies the trailer is definitely covered not sure about the horse recovery
May well be worth asking them |

With NFU my trailers are all listed on the LR130 policy so they are covered for loss damage and accident recovery, but not breakdown recovery.
My Nationwide bank account provides breakdown recovery in any vehicle up to 3.5Te including trailers and caravans but I don’t know about horses. 130 Puma HCPU with an Artica 240LR Demountable Camper |

Hired horse box trailer covers both. (Check).

Hi Jst,
I used Equine Rescue Services for many years whilst I was competing up until two years ago when I retired from competitions. I was always frightened about breaking down on a motorway with horse trailer and two horses on board as you've found out it is easy to get the towing vehicle and trailer recovered but your Green Flags, RAC and AA etc will not recover your horse and take it to a place of safety. Hi James, despite being with them for over ten years I have never had to call on their services. I have two friends who currently compete, one has a 7.5 tonne horse box and the other a 3.5 tonne but neither of those has ever had to call on their services.
I think Shearwater also have a horsebox insurance which includes horse rescue in case of breakdown and you could also try KBIS. Defender 90XS SW Mini Countryman Cooper S Morgan Plus 8 |

It’s definitely the sensible thing to have, you can bet your life that it maybe needed.
Earlier this year I was looking at horse box hire, and most of their vans had onward travel for Equine and vehicle included.
