When I changed my wheels over, the TPMS light came on but went off after about 15 minutes of driving. My neighbour who is a mobile tyre fitter has a device which scans the TPMS sensor without taking the tyre off and can tell if the sensors are working or not, so maybe you need to find a tyre fitter to check the valves. Cheers Ian

Okay
l've been reading up on it. Apparently the sensors can "go to sleep" and need "waking" if the wheels aren't used for a while. l'll speak to a tyre fitter as you suggested as it looks like you need a specific scanner to "wake" the sensors. Worth knowing if you plan to buy a set of wheels with tyres. Nothing is simple these days. |

How far did you drive it?
If they’re totally flat it can take 15-20 mins of driving to recharge them, at which point they should reconnect to the car. |

The TPMS light didn't come on at first, l drove about 20 minutes and then it started to flash.
Now, the warning light flashes for about 90 seconds when l start the engine and then stays on. So that means the sensors aren't working? The cheapest option might be to get the new tyres changed over to the old wheels. l do have the GAP tool l don't know if l can do anything with that? l imagine if l reset it, the light will just come back on after a while? |

I’d wait until you’ve done a few longer drives before spending any money, just to be sure.
Do you know for the sure new wheels have the sensors installed? It’s not uncommon for them to be moved across when people ‘upgrade’ to nasty alloys etc - which is where most of the takeoff steel sets come from. |

lt doesn't look like the tyres have been off the rims, its still got the original weights on the wheels and there's no signs of the white stuff they use on the tyre.
l've managed to get the Autodata printout and it says "new TPMS sensors (which l obviously have) can only be programmed using diagnostic equipment" Anyone know if the GAP tool can be used for this? l've got one. |

I’m not sure that’s true. I’ve just this week picked up a set of new to me wheels/tyres and swapped them over - not been programmed or even near the car before.
No lights on the dash, to begin with the figures from the old tyres were shown but after a few miles they updated to a different set of numbers so the sensors connected automatically. |

If May be obvious but check you have the right setting too?
If you have heavy load set the tyre pressures must correspond or you get TPMS warning Conversely with low load setting Clemmo Make today a little better than yesterday but not so good as tomorrow.... ^^^^^ that was also my experience when I changed my winter steels for summer alloys. |

I swapped alloys on mine and within 5 minutes of driving the sensors had synced. The wheels I put on had been off the other car for over 6 months. I couldn't find a sync or program mode, they just seem to automatically work.

l had a look with the GAP tool and there was no detectable signal from any of the wheels. So l guess the sensors are either not present (as suggested above) or the batteries are flat.
l read somewhere that LR changed the sensors in 2022 and the new type have a different frequency, so it could also be that. As these wheels were made in 2020 and the Defender is a 2023 model. l'll get the sensors changed over from my old wheels. My local LR Specialist wants to buy my part worn Michelins so they said they would swap the sensors over. Using the GAP tool l reset the TPMS but the light will obviously re appear next time l use the vehicle. There were also some random stored errors to do with the steering control module and media display "lost connection" so l cleared those as well. Hopefully they were just spurious events. As l've never had any issues or warning messages. |

Thanks for the advice, yes l ran through that as according to Autodata it is effectively the TPMS reset procedure. (To go into settings and change the load setting, then drive the vehicle) |

You don't need to remove the tyre to remove the TPMS sensor, you just need to break the bead and undo the securing nut and then re-inflate the tyre with a new valve, if they are just removing the valves and they are going to sell the wheels on I wouldn't expect them to rebalance them.
Coincidentally I bumped into my neighbour this afternoon and was talking to him about it and he thinks they probably don't have TPMS valves in them so you are going to have to break the bead on one of the tyres to have a look, that is the only way you can tell for definite. The tool that he has for scanning the valves is for if he is doing a puncture and one of the valves snaps (quite a common occurrence) he carries universal TPMS valves and he uses his tool to scan the original valve and copy the settings and then programme the universal valves with the Land Rover settings. l bet that's what has happened then. l'll buy some new TPMS sensors and get them fitted.
