You guys would do me a great favour if you stopped posting pics of Defenders with 35" tyres...
Bps, how do you like yours with the 35"? Thanks |

Give the choice I wouldn't run anything else. They need a bit of work to get them fitted and not fouling. I'm running a full gwyn Lewis kit. Ome springs and ome +5 shocks. On road I rate km2s. Can hum a bit depending on road surface but that's the least of my worries in a soft top defender. I would only run them on an 8" wide rim. I used to have 10" wide but they caused a handling issue caused by the tread being pulled to flat. Off road they are better than cooper stts although I do like the look of the stt pro but obviously not as good as an extreme pattern simex etc.
I think they suit a 110 and give it the chunky look / stance |

Lost a bit of steering lock as well but with properly set lock stops I've not had any issues

No standard shafts and diffs although 110 has rear Salisbury axle. Had them on my 3.9v8 auto 90 for a while, again with standard shafts etc and didn't have any issues

My mate is running 35" on his 300Tdi Disco with Defender transfer case and stock shafts/CVs with no problems also.
I guess problems arise with lockers, but then that's also the case with stock tyres. Overall do you find them much better than more conservative sizes? How's fuel consumption? I'm mostly set on 255/85R16 for my next tyres, but each time I see 35"s my mind goes around... |

I measured the fuel consumption in smiles per gallon on the v8 😀 Got 20 mpg taking it easy on a run and down to 13mpg when really enjoying a v8
Not sure in the 110 yet. It's got a 300 tdi in it which was 25-30 on the 235's. With it being ex military it's got the really low ration transfer box in it so with the 35s on its geared it up a bit so it pulls well. If you had a disco transfer box a 300tdi will struggle to pull 35s although a tuned td5 will. I would hope around 25 mph until I tweak the pump and intercooler but to be honnest fuel consumption has never been high up in my list of prioritys. If it was I wouldn't be driving a 2 ton brick 😀 |

285/75/16's on Matt Lee Mach 5's.
Very happy with the ride and feel. Trying balancing beads in them, and it's not bad. Sometimes there's a shake at 90kmh, then next time it's at 80kmh, or 110kmh. Being that they are-rebalancing themselves every time after stopping it takes a little getting used to. Overall, I like the fact that I'm not having to deal with adhesive weights coming off all the time. Hopefully I will be able to get some time over the weekend and finish writing my build thread. Do you use spacers on your Mach 5s, CND38? I think their offset is 10, correct? Yours look more outside than I thought they would be without spacers.

No spacers. I think it's the angle of the photo that makes them appear a little further out than they are. The fit just inside the fender flair. The usual spray from the front tires, as expected when turning the wheels.
I'll measure the offset. Rim width is 8" Click image to enlarge it's a Landrover thing... my renovation thread: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic40792.html |
