2002 Defender 110 Td5 DCPU Chawton White

can't get the temp up on my Td5

The temp on my Td5 is steadily going down. I changed the thermostat and now she does not even get out of the blue!

The thermostat was original (2001) and I replaced with a Land Rover item. It makes me wonder if the thermostat is fitted wrong, but if I recall the hose diameters make it hard to fit it wrong.

Bottom hose to RH bottom of radiator, top straight hose connection to top of radiator (and bypass hose to head), oblique cose connection to pump.

The way I imagine it works is that with the thermostat closed, the pumps sucks through the bypass hose circulating water through the engine only, then with the thermostat opening it starts to draw water from the bottom radiator hose?

Somehow I can't make this work logically in my head.

Did you test the Thermostat before fitting as I bought a genuine LR one 2 years ago that was faulty from the start and had to replace it albeit on my D2 at the time 110 Td5 Ex Utilities slowly converting into a pop top camper one day

I am going to ask the question... The gauge may not move but is the engine getting to temperature? Can you get a laser thermometer onto the hoses/block to test.

Just wondering if it isn't a bad earth to the gauge, a duff sensor or broken wire to the sensor?!

But it could be the new thermostat too.

If it would help I am happy to pop out and measure the voltage to the sensor, I believe the sensor has a range from 0-5v.

Everything is possible but before fitting I checked the thermostat and it was closed. If it was not to open it would overheat no?

I can check the temp with nanocom, and i do have an infrared thermometer somewhere. Will do that first
