Type of injectors
Types of injectors?
From reading my workshop manual I had always assumed my injectors on the 2.2tdci engine were electro mechsnical/solenoid type..
Information passed on in conversation with some folk led me to check the resistances of my injectors which all came in at about 200Kohms.. That definitely indicates piezo..
I was also checking or playing with the scope and using a current clamp and inductive pick up on the same injector.. The lowish actuating current I'm told also points to a piezo..
So just looking for final confirmation from folk who know about these engines that they are in fact fitted with piezo injrctorsšŸ¤”

And just for info I had a zoom in on one of the traces of a firing event.. Even at tickover you can clearly see 3 stages of injectionšŸ‘

Iā€™m pretty sure you are right Andy.
I believe our 2.2 injectors are Siemens/VDO part number 2910000177400 and if you read page 6 (says page 4 on the actual document ) of the linked VDO document it states

Common Rail Diesel Injector
Our piezo servo injectors ensure extremely precise injection and ultra-fine atomisation of diesel fuel for highly efficient combusā€ tion. Direct-drive piezo injectors make it possible to achieve greater fuel efficiency in powerful engines.

Then on page 10 (says page 8 on the actual document) you see details of the Siemens/VDO part number 2910000177400 injector and it states itā€™s for our 316 Pumaā€™s. It does not state itā€™s for the 2.2, but then the 2.4s donā€™t use Siemens injectors.

PF Jones site also confirms the VDO part number is correct for our 2.2 Pumaā€™s. https://www.pfjones.co.uk/land-rover-defen...77400.html

Cheers Ian... That's great.. I never even thought to have a close look at the injectors to see if they had any identification marks on them.. Will have a look today..
Thanks agsinšŸ‘

I've had a look at my injectors Ian.. There are markings on the top that can be seen if you have decent light.. They seem to be marked FMCo.. And what I'm presuming is the code for that injector.., šŸ‘

The BH1Q-9K546-AB is the Ford part number, and if you look at the PF Jones link I provided in my first post you will see it in the part number cross reference table, alongside the LR part number, for the
Siemens / VDO Injector.

Iā€™m pretty certain that Siemens/VDO are the supplier to LR and Ford, with ford having FoMoCo written on it when itā€™s supplied.

Itā€™s standard practice for ford to have FoMoCo stamped, printed or cast on the parts supplied to them, for instance on the 2.2 the EGR is supplied by Pierburg and FoMoCo is cast on the part. However when Pierburg supply it direct to the market ( at a much lower price) they grind the FoMoCo off the casting.
