90 Hardtop Bulkhead
I haven't got the car as yet - I am currently driving either an VW ID Buzz Cargo or VW Transporter T6 van for work. The defender will replace the Transporter and maybe also the ID Buzz a little further down the line.

The VW bulkheads have 'vision' panels with perspex / acrillic windows fixed in place. I'd like to remove the grill in the Landrover bulkhead and replace it with a sheet of clear perspex (I want to retain the bulkhead).

Has anyone looked into this?

I've seen that the grill can be removed so theoretically it should be possible to get a sheet of perspex custom cut and then pre drilled to enable it to be fixed back into the bulkhead and the old grill surround reinstated.

The grille cannot be removed in a conventional sense.
Ie.. you cannot dissemble it.

The grille is bonded into the bulkhead.
For sure you could cut the grille section out and replace with Perspex but would be a messy job.

I considered this but after due consideration decided to live with the grille
Barely notice it now

Is there a reason why?

I just ask because the bulkhead doesn't touch the roof, so if your reasoning is to 'seal' the back, replacing the mesh won't help.

I'm with Clemmo, I don't notice it and even when I chose to not use the Clear View rear mirror, it doesn't bother me.

Thank you both for replying

I was looking at this video hence why I thought it could be removed. I just would like to 'tidy' the bulkhead visually.

This is a pic of how my ID Buzz van looks (I had it lined and carpeted in the rear)

Looks like the trim pieces are held in place by the grill itself; therefore, by removing the grill, they would have nothing to attach to.

I would assume that if you wanted to go the route you do, you could get a company that specialised in acrylic to cut a piece to the right dimension, using the mesh piece as a guide. They could cut the holes in the right places to re-attach it with the screws to the bulkhead and also, if they cut the slots for the trim, you could re click those into place.

Custom plastic isn’t cheap but once the jig is made, you could get a few cut and perhaps sell the spares on eBay, etc, and get some of the cost of the setup back.

Of course you could also try making one yourself using a Dremel or similar cutting tool!

The grille is useful as it allows some heat into the rear compartment, which is useful in very cold weather.
