Fair Fuel Campaign
Just received this email
Quote:

Dear FairFuelUK Supporter

The Government is still on track to put up fuel duty in January 2012 and August 2012. These rises will add 33p per gallon to the already massive cost of petrol and diesel.

If you are angry and upset by the high cost of petrol and diesel please do the following two things for us as soon as you can:

1. If you haven’t already done so, go to this link http://action.fairfueluk.com/debateNov15, put your postcode in and then follow the instructions to send an email to your MP urging them to attend a major debate in Parliament next Tuesday 15th November on this vital issue. If they don’t know how upset and angry we are about this issue, they may not attend.

2. Please just pass this email on to everyone you know urging them to use the link above and then pass it on to all their contacts.

We need thousands of people to press their MPs on this issue. The Chamber of the House of Commons needs to be packed with MPs next Tuesday who are in no doubt about the suffering being caused by high petrol and diesel prices.

We need your help to do this…
Thanks again for all your support in the fight for lower petrol and diesel prices

Very kind regards

The FairFuelUK Campaign team

If Fair fuel want to campaign for anything, they should initially be campaigning to to remove the VAT that's added to the Excise duty on road fuels ... i.e a Tax charged on a Tax.

Diesel excise duty is currently 57.95ppl, on top of which VAT is added at the pump so an extra 11.59pence a litre or 52.69 pence a gallon of VAT is charged on top of an existing tax Shocked (about £8.70 a tank on a 110)

It's not a pointless campaign by any stretch, however I think they're barking up the wrong tree to begin with.

Have done the necessary but given that my MP is the speaker (John Bercow), I'm not sure if he is allowed to participate in the debate... Jon - 110 td5 [sold]. Currently Defenderless.

Not to mention the application of an increase to remove the 2.5% VAT reduction countermeasure that was never removed when the VAT went back up to 17.5% and now 20% - so effectively we are paying 22.5% VAT on fuel as well as any increase.

I would also be lobbying for the max price of fuel promise and for that to be set around 30p lower a litre than it is now Mike

While they can get away with it, they will.

Our society is dividing more and more by the day - certain small groups (energy firms, oil companies, some bankers, public sector execs, etc) are getting away with near murder (when an OAP dies from not being able to afford heating, maybe it IS a form of murder) while the rest of the World goes down the pan.

Short of a major revolution, we'll simply keep getting battered with lame excuses of World recession being at fault.

And a major revolution in the UK? I think not. Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion.

Over here there has been talk of an increase of the "carbon" tax on fuel. I suppose it will hit you too sometime as it is just another name for excise or vat, 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Done for what it's worth (I don't have much faith in my local MP).

Much to my surprise, I've actually had a reponse from my MP. Less of a surprise is his total lack of understanding Rolling Eyes

ARRRGHHH!!! It's the TAX that makes the prices insane! Oil prices are about 25% or less of the cost per litre.

ARRRRGHHHH!!! Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion.

Unexpectedly I got a proper letter in the post reply from my MP from filling out the petition. Didnt realy say very much other than she would be attending.

Who replies to email via snail mail though? What a waste of taxpayers money.
