United Kingdom 2003 Defender 90 2.5 TD XS CSW Baltic Blue
Head unit Defender
Hi apologies for another “what head unit” thread but some of the threads on this subject are now quite old and products change so I’d appreciate current thoughts. I recently fitted a nice shiny Sony DAB head unit to my 2010 Defender 90 Puma. However, it is driving me nuts as it’s not suited to the jolting, vibrating environment that is our world in an original Defender. The volume control is also the “push for every other function” button so as you turn it up or down the slightest movement puts into changing the display world and to get out the reverse button is hidden behind the large volume button. Other than that it’s a decent unit but just not ideal for my uses. I’m about to fit a kenwood subwoofer and am thinking that whilst it’s out I may cut my odds and change the head unit. I want DAB and single DIN with the outputs for the amp/sub woofer, Bluetooth hands free is essential but relaxed about CD. I’d tried with the Sony to get something where the display colour could be sort of matched to the Defemder dash lights but I’m now realising this is not a major requirement. I’m considering one of the Blaukpunts from Dynamic Sounds the Essen or the Barcelona. Any experience of these or other units at about the £140 price point? Thanks in advance.

Hi, I've recently upgraded to a Pioneer DEH-S720DAB, and I'm very happy with it so far.
It needs a signal splitter for the DAB to work with the standard antenna, as mentioned in another thread on here, with that all was ok first time.
Audio quality is excellent, a good colour match was achieved, it has a CD player, 3 sets of pre-outs and built in filters for them.
Price between £130 and £150, got mine at Halfords.

The only issue you might have is the volume button also controls other functions. I've not experienced any issues with it jumping selections in use during road driving.
