Good to hear from you Mo, it’s a space thing really. I’ve been in contact with a lot of suppliers & have a loose plan.
It won’t be a Blissmobil type build unfortunately as they are lottery money cost! Do like the U1300L ex-military as they are simple & bomb proof. |

The Mog, is a totally different beast to the Defender, better in some ways, not so in others.
Good Points Awesome offroad when the going gets tough. Loads of space, poles apart from trying to live in a defender. Wow factor when you pull up at a campsite. Bad Points. Everything is bigger and more expensive. The size means you have to think carefully about where you go if things might get tight Slower, 50mph is about as good a cruising speed you'll get. Initial purchase is expensive now compared to a few years back when you could pick up a decent 1300 for £15k. Higher fuel bills (expect 12-16mpg). If you get stuck, you are in trouble (been there done that!). Most 1300s now are going to be 30-40 years old. If you want to go big, the ex military MANN trucks are currently available for between £10 and £20k. I previously ran a U1200 which was great fun and now have a 62 year old 404 as an off roader. |

I know where you’re coming from & thanks for the reply.
This would be a very big investment for us, truck itself would be £80k ish & then there’s the habitation box / fit out etc. The truck would have some useful mods, Superfast crown wheel & pinion. Turbo + intercooler. Additional tanks. Bigger radiator. Air seats. Complete paint inc chassis’s. Cab dampening. Aircon. 4 point torsion free cad design subframe. Front / rear winches. Plus a lot more. Spoke to a few guys saying 12-13mpg |

I used to get 11mph out of my U1200 and that was without any kit on it. It did have a turbo and a tuned pump though so was relatively spritely.
I knew guys who were nudging 20mpg on ex military U1300's with camper boxes on if they took it easy though. My 404 currently does 9mpg Click image to enlarge |

Yep, up to 7.5t you can register as a motorhome and don't get embroiled in HGV regs.

To be honest it will be outside of the uk most of its life so shouldn’t be an issue.

Have you thought of an ex UK military DAF? Much cheaper and pretty robust. Loads of spares as well.
https://www.modsurplus.com/index.php/manufacturer/leyland-daf Anyway, You Tube is your friend. A lot of You Tubers have email addresses you can reach out to them on in their profiles. I've reached out to a few for different projects and have found them pretty helpful. If you do a build, then it'd be cool to see a thread on it. Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy. |

Thanks for that Mo, the DAF’s are well proven & don’t fetch strong money. But, it’s either a Defender or Mog so I’ve been told by my better half! Miss good internet, great coverage here at LR Zimbabwe!!

Looking at that but not allowed in many parts of Africa due to security concerns apparently!
