Yorkshire Fog this morning
Driving in East Yorkshire this morning, across some hills and it was pretty foggy.

10 years ago everyone would have had fog lights front and rear at the mere sign of a bit of mist on a distant hill.
That has all changed now.
At least 80% of the modern vehicles had no rear lights on Shocked

So, set lights to auto and never touch the switch again!
Lights turn on if it’s dark. If you go through a tunnel. If you pass under some trees. If you put the wipers on.
But fog - no, not detected so no lights.

Strange world!

Hmm, rear fog lights... One of the most stupid and unnecessary ideas of modern times, probably resulting in more accidents than they have prevented, and misused and misunderstood by more drivers than almost any other feature.

To be fair when they were made mandatory (early 80s?) tail lights were less visible and there was usually only one rear fog lamp mounted low down so made sense on fast roads/motorways in fog/low visibility conditions.

These days they are high intensity led ( like the headlamps 🙄)and usually two lamps placed higher up, that and the fact drivers are so disconnected from what they are doing in modern vehicles so just leave them on so makes it far worse and creates glare which completely defeats the object! 2004 Defender 90 Td5 CSW

Round here some still use their front fog lights thinking they are DRLs.

Those with their rear fog lights on in otherwise clear conditions more often that not don't realise that the extra intensity of the fog light masks the brake lights..

Apparently using your indicators isn’t cool 🤪

I still use mine which kind of proves that theory right.

I also don’t cut corners.

I’m so uncool.

We don't get many "Fogs" in Aussie, certainly nothing like the REALLY thick fogs we experienced in Manchester in the 50s, some were so thick you couldn't see a few feet in front of yourself!
