Unless there was a different European specification (and I don't think there was), the 2.4 was only ever Euro 4.
The 2.2 was introduced (with the DPF) for Euro 5 compliance. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

If option 2 is a 2.4 it won't be Euro 5.
Perhaps it's a 2.2 with DPF in which case it will be Euro 5, as you say its a 2011 model? I went for a 2.2 for the Euro 5, but in the UK I can't drive into an increasing number of cities (without paying), as clean air zones here require Euro 6. So I might as well have gone for a 2.4. It might be worth checking the Land Rover online service history site if you haven't already? Some of the service history for my defender is recorded online but its not in my service record book. Hey both, thanks for responding!
I'm not sure to be honest, but I looked up the license plate in the government registry and it tells me it's euro 5. The dealer is stating it's a 2.4. Either way, my question is: how concerned should I be about the service history? My preference would be to go for euro5. |

Just had a look! Unfortunately couldn't find any service history (the car was imported a long time ago, that's probably why). However, it did confirm it's a 2.4! |

Just a warning, there was recently a thread by a member also from the Netherlands who purchased a 2.2 that was ROW spec and hence Euro 4, but he paid for Euro5 as that what was stated in the documentation. Result is failed emissions. So check everything very carefully. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Was it not for the tighter emissions control on the 2.2, it would be a reliable lump (perhaps without the variable oil pump).
It is much easier and cheaper to make a 2.2 with similar emissions as a 2.4 than a 2.4 with the emissions of a 2.2. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

The way the world is going, its EU6 you need to ensure city access. Glasgow's LEZ now and the rest of Scotland's cities follow next year, totally ban less than EU6, you cant even pay to go in. 2015 RRS Autobiography SDV6

Here we are good to around 2030, so I'm fine taking that risk. Given that, what would be your choice between the two?

Because prices are now dropping and there will be better ones available, for instance my 2011 1 owner 50k miles unmarked 90xs SW dinitrolled from new with no damage 50k miles is not worth 41k euros. And there have been several really nice ones on here recently much newer and cheaper, appreciate you may want a lhd one and prices in Europe may be higher. example https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic86841...caa0dfd415 DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS, I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy Last edited by LR90XS2011 on 26th Oct 2023 7:48pm. Just to confirm - the NL emissions database is indeed not always correct: my 2011MY 2.4 130 shows on the RDWdata website as euro5 - which it certainly is not.
