I have monitored the prices here in France and yes they are dropping from their peak ~2 years ago, but supply remains scares and there are plenty of poor cars on offer that remain stubbornly high. Clearly good examples remaining really high but likewise are also not selling. Defenders must take ages to sell.
In the UK the emission rules are more draconian than in the EU and justifiably people are weary to buy anything less then EURO6 (so much for getting your freedom back). Also there is always enough to pick from in the UK which will put downward pressure on the market. Not to mention the runaway insurance market. Frankly I am glad I left the UK I find life in France is a lot more carefree. |

No idea what happens after 2025 - other than more tax to pay, as this seems to be the default solution to everything nowadays🙄. The 2.4 is a euro4 engine - no dpf fitted as standard. Mine was first registered in December 2012, despite being built in June 2011 - I’ve assumed that the registration date has led to part of the “system” here applying the emissions norm for a 2012 2.2. I am quietly hoping that with time (and the current nudge policy) come 2025-2030 etc the percentage of cars remaining on the road which are not EURO5/6 will be so small they will let it pass.
The same argument often used for classic cars: - Not many left and a forever decreasing number - time itself is a solution to this problem. - Very little used, many possible not being driven at all - Mostly recreational use, so not really high traffic/pollution areas and times. - Small users base not really worth the efforts. Lot of enforcement cost and effort for very little gain. Effort better spent elsewhere. - Cultural heritage argument Obviously if like in the UK or Holland you have allowed The Matrix to control your roads with automated camera's, then by sheer technological convenience you could be suffering this persecution all the way till the extinction of the Defender. |

So this I think is exactly the same problem another Dutchman had here on this forum where is car was classed EURO5 while it was not and subsequently he did not pass his emissions and was left with trying to retrofit emission control equipment in the hope he would pass. In his case it looked like the car was imported (ROW) and incorrectly classed as EURO5. Hence the warning to the OP to make sure before buying all the documents are correct, and if in doubt keep looking for a less 'suspect' vehicle. |
