Tub cappings replacement
I am thinking I should replace them on my 200tdi 90 as they are rusting on the welds and as I can see it inside as well as outside I am assuming it's not superficial. As the truck is well patinated(!) I really didn't want to paint them so thought galv would look 'period'. So YRM have them new but at £420 and with galv imperfections that have been rubbed down and cold sprayed I'm not so sure. I could by new genuine for £235 and maybe pattern parts cheaper but haven't checked yet. I assume they will be primed only and would need spraying, maybe in a galvanized paint to avoid a colour mismatch. Any thoughts/suggestions?

If I am doing that is there anything else that makes sense to do at the same time?

Thumbs Up Rob

Everything that's galvanised will have imperfections somewhere, usually where the item has been hung when dipping. YRM are being honest and upfront about it, don't let it put you off. Everything I've had from them has been of great quality.

And if you're unsure, give them a ring and ask. Very helpful bunch.

Alternatively you could buy new either genuine or pattern and get them blasted and galvanised yourself, but the overall cost and quality would likely be similar to YRM.

I have bought parts from YRM in the past and have never been disappointed, in my experience their products are excellent.

Depends on how bad yours are, but there are repair sections that you can cut and weld in. Then I would still go the route mentioned by blackwolf as painting them on the underside is very difficult.
But I am inclined to hot dip everything, as I get good prices locally. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

If you purchase new cappings, the rivet holes are different from the 200tdi on the six visible rivets on the side of the tub, so redriling of the capping will be required.

I really need to move this on and assume redrilling of the tub rather than cappings is not an option Question
