From what I remember at college about materials and stress, it looks to me that the design is something to do with prevention of cracking and not a final solution to a hub falling off of the axel...
JLR would never want to admit true failings and so recover the millions of axles they've released from 2006+ to the market. This problem was known for a while too and should have been recalled long ago. Funny this has come up in the same time as Luton Airport car park fire. An RR Evoque supposedly caused it. Now, I'm not saying this is gospel but a little birdy had told me that the small diesel line of engines (2.0 I believe) had suffered "failed" braising on an oil line located near either the exhaust manifold or turbo. And JLR still did not reject the sub contracted work. Worrying stuff IMO. This was 2-3 years ago, I don't know the age of the RR or if it was a petrol, diesel or hybrid... All this is speculation, I'm not attempting to upset or spread nonsense, just anecdotal things I'm sharing my opinion on. 4.0 V8 Defender 90 My Instagram |

I called my local dealer a couple of weeks ago as soon as I recieved the letter
Booked-in for Mid-November, but the dealer already reckons they will have to postpone because of the shortage of materials! However they could not requisition the parts from LR until the car was booked-in... Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

My dealer cancelled my booking last week due to not being able to get the parts. However they rung me yesterday to say they now have them.

I’ve also had the letter. Just need to get the 110 booked in.
Nice to think it’s taken JLR 11 years since its manufacture to recognise its front axle could be at risk of failure . . . I had that argument with them. They said it's because the dealer has to pick up that cost as Landrover doesn't cover it for recalls.

I've been offered a courtesy vehicle and no cost was mentioned perhaps it varies from dealer to dealer.
Perhaps I need to put my bike in the back!! DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS, I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |

I’m new to forum but found this thread very informative, I had the recall letter in September and booked Defender into Sytner Sheffield, they phoned me up cancelling and told me LR had sent 2 rh brackets and would contact me when both lh and rh brackets came in, a few days after they contacted me saying parts now arrived and booked in again, they had Defender for the day and to be honest they were very fair and efficient, so now just have to keep fingers crossed and hope nowt nasty happens.

Had mine done today at Sytner Coventry, lots of coffee with biscuits when I got there and an offer of breakfast to go. They even gave me a FOC Range Rover Evoque to use for the day. The whole experience was pleasantly wonderful. Well done Sytner Ride like you stole it!! If I’m not on a bike it’s because only a 4x4 will do… 2011 2.4 Puma 90 HT |
