Since I have been doing my own oil changes for some time and unfortunately do not have a platform, I have installed a drain valve-system that allows clean oil changes. Without any mess (except for the filter)
I tested it for the second time now since installing it and i really appreciate it and thought it would be an interesting information on that forum. I’ve got the Femco one. Very handy, but quite slow to drain. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Yes I have a femco. When I got it there was an option of two sizes and I think I got the larger gauge |

Been there as well when draining the coolant on my 2.2 which does not have a fuel cooler to drain from. When you take the hose off the oil cooler there is no room for a container and a torrent of coolant goes all over chassis. It took me about 20 minutes hosing the whole chassis and surrounding areas clean. ![]() |

Just be very careful not to over torque these drain plugs, the metal is very thin and they can shear. I used to have the Femco one and it was fabulous for many many years, but sheared in half when undoing the dust cap. Make sure you keep the threads greased is my advice

I don’t use a drain pan when using the Quick drain fitting. I put hose straight into an old 5ltr container and drain it direct into that. When nearly full slacken pipe, stops the flow, swap to another container and go again till empty. |

Looks like a great little gadget. I find when draining the oil it hits the ARB and goes everywhere.
Definitely on the shopping list, the Defender is due an oil change soon. |

Such good advice. I went slightly over the recommended torque the first time I fitted one, and it sheared straight off. The remaining portion of the valve was relatively easily recovered with a fat bolt extractor, but a brief moment of bad language was occasioned. |

This is sage advice. I must keep some 5L empties. Next time I drop the filter housing, it will be into an empty pan. This will also cut out that other stage of the operation, where I decant the pan into 5L bottles and either knock them over, cause one to overflow, or get the drain nozzle of the pan stuck in the neck of the bottle. |

I also use a Stahlbus drain valve and it really is a great bit of kit, easy to use and no mess.

In the UK you have to order through Demon Tweeks.
Just ordered one and lots of oil from Opie. |
