Tried 5mm then 6mm to start but was too small for the fir tree clips to go in, so ended up being 6.5mm…..and a good whack with the hammer. Think I saw someone on here went to 7mm. |

On my 110 DC the factory holes were mostly 6mm.... There was now way the new fir tree's would fit... After experiment ended up with 7.2mm holes. But I suppose it depends on the fir tree's themselves, got mine from YRM

My fir tree clips came from here:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Land-Rover-Defe...ect=mobile The self-tapper through the hole in the interior light certainly helped, but it did seem that it needed the extra fir trees to support the weight of the headlining. Also the rear 90 headlining has an unused fixing hole in the centre rib - it seems to be punched through the board but the fabric is not punched through - you can feel for it then use that as a starting point. It’s where the fir tree in my photo that has a flat spot on it behind the interior light. |

I've done something similar some time ago, but instead of adding a self-tapping screw, I used a rivnut.
I did not add any additional fixings though, it seems to hold reasonably well so far.
