Solid Rivets
Replacing the end panel on the series 2 seat box. I'd like to solid rivet rather than pop rivet it together, however, don't want to spend hundreds on a pneumatic rivet gun. Has anyone hand-rivetted these with a punch and block? I understand the basic concept but am unsure how easy to achieve a reasonable finish. Also, need to find out what size are the rivets.

A pneumatic rivetter is both unnecessary and overkill and in the hands of the inexperienced is very likely to do catastrophic damage to the body. A suitable rivet snap and block (and maybe an extra set of hands from an assistant) is much safer.

Which rivets are you needing to fit? There are various sizes in various places.

Thanks Blackwolf. I need to replace the aluminium seat box side/end panel on the near side then attach a new steel battery box up into it. I'm fairly apt at metal fabrication but have never had a need for solid rivets so appreciate your caution using a gun.

You can get a very reasonable finish with solid rivets.
Size wise I've always worked on -
Min rivet Diameter= thickest sheet
Max rivet Dia = 3x thickest sheet
Min dia structural 3/32"

Length 1.5 x dia + grip

Spacing 4 to 8 x dia

Dist from edge - flush head 2.5 x dia shank.... Non flush 2x
