As I said before, try and get the details of the engine that is in it. Doing a quick search it looks like it could have been fitted with 19J engine, but you really need to know for sure.

Do a search for "19J ot 200tdi" and you will find some useful feedback. This will highlight potential shortfalls of the engine type. It seems a bit pointless us telling you how good our engine are if you are not buying the same type.

I noted before that my vehicle has a 300tdi and I cruise at 55 to 60 mph. Whilst that is the case it does still have power to do 80 - but I don't!

It would also be worth looking at what brakes the vehicle has fitted. I am not sure what year they changed, but 1991 may have dusc front/drum rear where later ones went to disc front and rear.

When I bought mine I wanted discs front and back, and a 300tdi. I managed to get that in a 1993 90, but that has had the 300tdi transplant from its original engine and I am not sure if you are allowed that on your imports.

Key thing I think would be to ensure you let the engine idle for a while if you've pulled into services from a motorway so the turbocharger can cool down while the oil is kept circulating.

I had a Defender which had 320,000 miles on the odometer and it ran beautifully.

My current one needed a new turbocharger at 120,000 miles because the bearings had expired.

Long distances / periods of driving are better because the fluids are hot and any moisture in the oil has long since boiled away.
