Hi, I was on my rounds in the beautiful village of Bossington today and came across this blast from the past Vauxhall Calibra, it’s been off the road since 2017 and looks to have led a pretty quiet life 2 -3k miles a year for a few years, cheers Paul

From a few posts back re. the Mk1 MR2, I clocked a Mk2 MR2 on the road yesterday.

Never thought the Mk2 looked as nice. Still wouldn't have turned my nose up at one when I was younger.

That really was a car I had totally forgotten about. Was the Ford Probe and Vauxhall Calibra around the same era? Haven't seen a Probe lately either? Must be some knocking around.

yeah rashers, the ford probe was around that era, i think it was when they all decided to do a coupe.
Ford probe been the weakest link out the lot, my mate has a ford probe, second one he has owned funny enough. What a pain in the backside to get spares for, its such an odd ball car. We found that out when he had his 1st ford probe. Thing with the ford probe is its actually a Mazda of some sort with a ford badge on. My mate also tried to get a pair of rams for the boot, from ford them selves, the parts bloke went Shocked as soon as he mentioned ford probe. saying that the ford probe was a nice car to drive mind, but for a 2 litre 16v, it was very flat.
Out of the coupe era, i think peugeot 406 was the last one out of that era, to be still made, until 2004.
it was rumoured that a lot of the Vauxhall Calibra's were donors for their engines, for the nova, corsa and Astra. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

The Calibra certainly looked better than it drove, and it didn’t look that good. Just drove like a boring cavalier

Probe's were dire but then again you could have been 'lucky' enough to own a COUGAR............... Laughing

Yes. It’s a shame that they had better driving cavaliers like gsx, Sri, turbo and such but just used the standard crap on the a sporty looking calibre

Probe was modern Carpri, and the calibre being the modern manta of their time.

Now there’s a great car, I owned my 1979 Opel Manta 1.9 SR 4 times it was a really great drive, unfortunately it appears to have gone to the great scrapyard in the sky 😞ps the number plate was bent when I sadly hit a badger

The last time i saw an Opel Manta, would be some point in the late 90s, that was on a forecourt, when my dad was looking at a 405 Turbo diesel, it could be around about 1998, the garage now i think is long gone now, and it could be a block of flats on it or something now. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

the COUGAR me and my pal often saw in auction, going for a good few quid. But again another one that seemed to have vanished. I was told those were related to the mondeo, like the 406 coupe was to the 406, saloon and estate. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

I have to say in my opinion the 406 coupe was a lovely looking car, I remember Peugeot did an odd city car ( 1007?) with sliding electric doors and on one of my rounds in Blue Anchor there’s a guy with 3 of them Shocked cheers Paul
