There was a 1969 Marcos in the tennis club carpark yesterday. You don't see many of those about now.

Good to know there are still a few stags about and being driven.
in the 80’s they were labelled “hairdressers cars” , meant as a slur in those days, but I really liked them. Another friend had a Costello V8 3.5 MGB GT but at the time I preferred the stag. My friends Stag was blue as well, a dark blue , I believe it was called sapphire blue. IIRC the engine overheating was caused by narrow waterways that furred up, but if you went 50/50 with the correct antifreeze / distilled water mix you avoided the issue. PS. No I’m not a cave dweller but live in a nice rural area and don’t spend much time on major roads these days, but a few years ago I was doing 30k miles a year on a regular basis and still not seeing any stags |

A good YouTube video on the Stags (TriumphV8) engine and the problems it suffered. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8q_dqk6CA4Y . |

We had a conversation years ago, on 306.net when that forum was online. I pointed out a Rover SD1 and i said, lads when was the last time you saw one of these? a couple of lads replied quite often. it then went into what was common car in the area. For me Nissan crap is very common, compared to other car manufactures. Down south they maybe something else that is more common, So it all boils down to the area you are in, as you say. North east sector has its rural areas after ashington. I would have to agree, that its been a while since i saw a Stag, Even though there were a couple of people who owned a few of them. One house actually had a number of MGBs. But i think they may have moved etc. The SD1 i mentioned, the fella used to have a rovers in the past, i remember him having a Green SD1 and a rover 800 fast back, then he moved to Jags. He must have retired because, he had revered back to the SD1 and the Jag i think was replaced with something very small, and The SD1 was moved on for the MGB roadster, with wire wheels and chrome bumpers. CD, another popular classic car is the MGB a bloke up the road from me, has a Red one with wire wheels and chrome bumpers. Bloke always had rovers, he had Rover SD1s rover 800s rover metro. He kept the Rover 800 for a while but had a jag. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back Success is 90% Inspiration and 4 minutes Preparation # you can make it! |

Saw a Talbot Rancho today. Remember having a toy one as a kid, and them being on the road. Loved the look then, and still do.

I just about remember the Talbot Rancho, but only ever remember seeing one on the road over 40 years ago. So impressed one is still being driven.

My mum used to have a Rancho, in that horrid browny colour.
I think a lot of it was fiberglass, and even that rusted! only front wheel drive; looked the biz but was useless on anything other than tarmac. |

In the mid 70's I built Custom Cars for fun. I would take cars & bits from a breakers and weld them up in my workshop.
So I took an HB Viva ......cut the back end off ...... Click image to enlarge added TWO back to back roofs of the Hillman Husky ... Click image to enlarge the end result was an all metal ....... Click image to enlarge Then Talbot Matra released this ..... Click image to enlarge ... I loved the 70's |

I have never saw a Talbot Rancho at all in person, i had to google what one was! Only thing i have seen in racing is the Talbot sunbeam, That's about as far as i have seen from anything of Talbot. I am sure the 309 was a successor to a Talbot if i remember. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

I remember the Matra Rancho. I think it did influenced the Discovery design. A neighbour had a Triumph Standard many years ago in two tone green. Always liked it.
I think cars were distinctive then and had character, like the series Land Rover, 90/110 and the defender. Everything today is homoginised but I suppose a lot of it is to do with safety and economy.
