I bought my Defender in 2022 and plan to run it for ten years. That takes me into 2032 when I won't need such a big car and so will replace it with EV / hydrogen. I might even end up just renting cars for when I need one. Car ownership will change with technology.
Older, diesel cars cars will fall foul of particulate emissions and eventually will be priced for entering and parking in towns an cities based on those emissions. Just look at the rise in App based parking. This will give councils the ability to charge you for parking based on how 'clean' your car is. Sadly, many older cars like Defenders will be priced out of the market by emissions and insurance. Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy. |

I don't think electric cars will take on. The places which will benefit most are the least able to support the charging required. It's fine if you have your own drive, can commute to work and back on a single charge and of course afford to buy or lease one. It's not so great if you have to park several streets away and can't charge the thing.
Until there's a way of charging suitable for everyone, how's anyone going to use them? Electric stuff in general is designed to be overly complicated, to ensure that it will break and someone won't eventually be able to fix it, then it will be thrown away. Which of course means a new one is needed. That's possibly good for the economy, but not the environment. I think that the 2030 deadline will be moved when manufacturers stop making them because they can't sell them. If they were any good - environmentally, economically, repairability, range, charging availability, longevity, affordability and probably more then they would sell really well and everyone would want one. |

So a 250mile to communte to work on a daily basis. 1250miles a week / circa 60k miles per year.
Here's the average stat for the 2019 year - 782miles per year not 60k https://www.statista.com/statistics/466097...e-england/ |

Business and Fleet buyers like them for the tax advantages.
I don't think people buy their car for the average journey. They buy them for all the journeys they need to undertake. My wife drives about 30 miles round trip for work, twice a week. Ideal for electric but we don't want a 3rd car. We do need a comfortable car that will happily do the round trip to Kent 4 or 5 times a year. That said, electric is becoming more practical every year. Reasons not to own one will become less and less. If we could get a £35k EV with a range of 600 miles, I'd sell the BMW. |

If I could buy an EV that has a boot size of around 800litres for my dogs, I would have an EV.
I squash them in the boot of the BMW X545e but chose not to fit a dog guard to give them a bit more space. I hazard a guess that they much prefer the boot space in the Volvo even with the hinge down dog guard As company we recently moved back to petrol and everyone is missing the ID3. Better drive, more response, linear, smoother.... (Wife will not have a Tesla due to Mr Musk) |

Think I'd have an EV9 over a Tesla X anyway!
As for a gold Volvo, did you tick the slipper warmer and cardigan hanger option? Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy. |

I sort of suggested that the Porsche did an EV estate with a big boot. One passed us at the weekend and I pointed it out and the response wasn't postive.
As for the gold. Volvo calls it Seashell Metallic. The V5 shortens it to Gold |

the second hand car market dealers cannot really shift the second hand electric cars, they end up selling them at a loss. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back Success is 90% Inspiration and 4 minutes Preparation # you can make it! |
