Brake Bias Valve Replacement
I need to replace my 90’s brake bias valve, because it is leaking.

It’s a non-ABS Td5 90.

Does anyone have any tips, tricks, or insights before I tackle the job? Charlie

It is an an awkward place for sure. It is much easier if done on a vehicle ramp but is possible DIY on the floor or jack stands.

The first and foremost thing to do is get some penetrating oil on to the brake pipe nuts. Unless you are going to replace the brake pipes that is...

Get a beautiful assistant and take the bonnet off, soak the brake nuts in penetrating oil, empty the reservoir if you have the means, loosen the brake pipes (mark or photo which one is which), get covered in brake fluid, curse the rusty screws holding the door finishers on, remove/pull forward the inside footwell mat to get at the M8 bolt head securing it, get the hoover out because you’re disgusted at how much muck has accumulated under it rusting the bottoms of your footwells, bolt new one on loose (gives you wiggle room to fit the pipes) , screw in brake pipes, tighten M8 bolt to hold it, tighten brake pipes and bleed the system. Don’t push the pedal the whole way to the bottom the first time few times bleeding as if you’ve any dirt in the bottom of the reservoir it’ll get sucked behind, I always half pump half pumps first few. End the job curse the td5 and think - ahh I remember when us skinny athletes used to be able to climb into a 200 Tdi engine bay and do it sitting down Rolling with laughter

It seems like a basic task, but accessibility makes it fiddly.

Fortunately I had a full stainless brake line set fitted two years ago, so the lines should come out of the valve easily (fingers crossed). Charlie
