Bonnet Chequer replacement
So my 90 HT came as new with the Matt finish bonnet chequer.
I never liked it..it always looked dull/dirty.
The dealer said changing it wasn’t an option.

Today I did it.
Bought the “Gloss Chequer” panels and went for it.
Very nerve racking easing off the old panels. Broke a couple of clips both sides. Expected too so had a few spares. Being a hot day helped..wouldn’t try it when it’s cold.

New ones went on a treat…very pleased with look Thumbs Up
Now all parts above the waistline are gloss black..all those below are Matt/Satin.

Clemmo Thumbs Up

Mine being an X-Dynamic it’s all gloss black trim, wouldn’t be my first choice but better than the colour coding of the XS. 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue

I wasn’t that adverse to the Mat finish to look at.
It was just it had a textured finish that attracted and held dust.
I have found that washing it today was easier and a better result.

The colour coded doesn’t appeal at all…it needs breaking up

It definitely cleans better, mine got its first wash today, but they do show the light swirl marks. Currently I use Auto Finesse Graphene Filler Wax, supposedly lasts up to 8 months. 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue

My first one had the matt chequer plates, but my new one has the gloss plates. The gloss plates are perfect, polish up nicely, and are just the right about of gloss black. There is a bit of a mishmash of matt and gloss black on these cars, with shiny parts including the side vent on the front wing, trim around the A pillars and rear lights. The only version of the defender that really works is the XS with the almost complete omission of matt trim, much better than the bottom of the car being gloss black 🤮.

Simon from powerfuluk has a video on his YT channel about removing them.

Not difficult at all.
Pop the bonnet.
Put something in the way so it’s open about 30cm
Start at windscreen with trim tool.
Pop it in and gentle ease off … it’s on clips
You may break a couple.
It feels awful… the trims bend but you just go for it
