You shouldn't have to remove the roll cage strut. The only thing I would do is fill up the rear void with silicone. It helps the gasket seat properly against the bulkhead and as such reduces the chances of water leaking past the gasket.

When I refitted mine, I used standard paper gasket that I soaked in oil. I also applied some butyl around the bolt holes to ensure no water gets into the bulkhead.
I would not use silicone, as it has high content of acetic acid, which promotes corrosion.
