Talk to Gwyn Lewis. He has sorted all my Defenders, including my 110 DC when I had it. It will be a slight 25mm raise but will do everything you want and more.

Hi Landy Andy,
I’ve read a number of references to contact GL.Do you recall what springs you ran on your DC? Thanks |

No. Sorry. Each time i swap around I phone Gwyn he tells me what he recommends, tells me if not correct he will swap, but I’ve never had to.

If not already present you should consider anti roll (anti sway) bars front and back. I recently fitted a set and the improvement is very noticeable making the car more car like with less steering required to cruise at speed. Also I found that as you take turns at slightly higher speeds you need to shift back less making for better progress all-around.

Assuming you have the original HD springs that provide the 1 tonne payload, you could do a lot worse than swapping them for progressive white/green/green station wagon springs. They transformed my USW that suffered the same problem. Darren

That's an interesting point about the station wagon springs, shame I've just had my original DC springs powder coated

I fitted a pair puma SW rear springs on my DC (progressive purple/brown stripe) years ago and it improved the ride a lot over the original springs. I always hated the nose down look it had, even with matching puma SW front springs though so swapped to a set of OME 2751HD fronts which levelled it out. There is a couple of threads on here which have one of my pictures showing the ride height difference at the front with the standard yellow/yellow springs and OME springs I used.
I ran a flatdog roofrack, heavy winch and winch bumper and a fairly large roof tent and found ride wise was fairly spot on, even with standard genuine shocks. ARBs are a must though unless you are doing serious offroad work as fitting those made the handling night and day. Another vote for Gwynn Lewis...
I got all my OME shocks and springs etc from him for my Puma DC and it now sits pretty level, maybe fractionally higher all round, but drives very nicely....even without a rear anti=roll bar. I might put the roll bar back to see if it becomes a problem off road. On road it may lean a bit more but it's incredibly controllable and you can really hustle it if the need arises ![]() |

Thanks for the replies.
Last weekend was 600kg of flags in the back and the rear end sat down significantly. Should it do that? Or is it a sign of tired rear suspension? I’m probably looking for something that will do everything! CSW springs sound interesting, but concerned for their rating - will check their rating weight wise. Likewise will now look into an ARB. I seem to recall a demountable one for when things get rougher, but can’t remember who/where. Many thanks All. |

Agree, fitted to our 110 too and for the odd time you need to carry a heavy load why not fit the Airbag helper springs inside the green and whites. |

I’ve not come across airbag helper springs before
Are they an easy fit - I’ll search the forum - and reliable and does it also mean I can safely shift the same payloads (on the rare monthly occasion?). Thanks |

I think he might be thinking about the bags you place inside the springs and inflate. Pretty neat solution for occasional use.
