Hello,
I am contemplating getting some Fire & Ice side steps for my 1998 TD5. According to the supplier, they won’t fit pre-2003 defender because of the fuel tank location. Given that my fuel tank is located under the boot, I am a bit confused? Has anyone every tried to fit those on a pre2003 defender and are they indeed non compatible? Thank you https://www.johncraddockltd.co.uk/lr008379...03-on.html |

Thank you. If yours is a 2003 you might have no probs w yours then.
Also my 1998 has a shielder chassis, not sure whether it makes it even more complicated :/ |

Can’t accurately comment on the chassis but the fixings are very basic and I’d hazard a guess that you’ll be ok.
If your tank is behind the rear axle then I’d hope you’ll be ok 👍 |

I currently have 4 individual side steps fitted, so now that I think of it, there should be a problem with the fuel tank.
Were pre2003 defenders normally fitted with a fuel tank under the seat? Like a series? |

No. Pre-1998 Defender 90s had a side-mounted fuel tank.
2003 has no bearing on fuel tanks. |

That’s what I thought. I was surprised to see that even johncraddock seem to think 1998-2003 have fuel tank issues when it comes to side steps ?!?

They’re either referring to something else, or more likely just wrong.
Most part fitment information on supplier websites is incorrect. |
