Renewing the felt in the runner would be the best option but it's a pain to do with the glass in situ.
http://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/p-1649-window-channel.aspx I wedged a piece of cardboard into the slider to stop the rattling a few years back. 2005 Td5 110 Hardtop 1989 300Tdi 90 Soft top 1992 200Tdi 90 Truck cab with Land Cruiser axles |

Probably not a recommended fix but I used a hot glue gun. I still wanted to be able to open and close the windows so I opened the window, put some small blobs on the side of the groove sort of where the felt used to be, and then while the glue was still hot, just opened and closed the window quickly back and forth until the glue had cooled. It made a nice tight fit in the groove.
Key there is to not get distracted while you're doing it else you'll end up with a window that'll definitely never rattle again... it won't open either Matt. '89 90 CSW with a 3.5 V8 conversion (WIP) - http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic46809.html |

It is possible to do it in situ. Here's how to do it: http://www.nickslandrover.co.uk/defender-s...placement/ I replaced the felt some years ago this way, no rattling since... it was't that difficult - much easier than the official way by taking the windows out!

I went the Woolies window felt route for anyone interested.. extracted the old stuff easily enough with a small screwdriver and patience. Bought the 10mm stuff from Woolies (link below). It was fairly easy to feed through the top tbh and not as bad as I thought it would be. For the corners I just cut little triangles out and ran it around . I found 3m was plenty for the 2 windows as I have the plastic runners in good condition along the bottom edge still.
I haven't road tested yet though https://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/product/1649/window-channel |

What length of felt trim do you need to do both the windows?

I used 3m of trim as parts of my windows have these metal runner things as well at bottom but I expect yours are same. , I wouldn't have said it's rattle free but pretty good replacement.

Easy fix / bodge is to cut the head off a plastic cable tie and insert the remaining part of the tie into the channel, under the window. This tip was out of a recent issue of LRO mag, it worked for my rattling window and happy until I can get some masai replacements at some point
