300 TDI 10as immobilizer removal
Hello, I am new to the Defender world as of yesterday. I picked up my new to me 1998 Defender 110 from the port after importing it to the US. Problem is it wont start now. The previous owner said he bought the truck without the security fob and never needed it. So somewhere from the UK to the US the truck might have rearmed itself and will not let me start it up. I have narrowed it down to the 10as or the ignition switch. Instead of wasting time with them I would rather just replace one and remove the other. I know this is a touchy subject because of theft. So if you can help shoot me a message or shoot me some ideas on what else I can try.

There is a factory supplied plug in unit to remove the spider unit which is what usually causes the problems.

It's mounted in the battery box. drill out some rivets and you can access it. Mine used to play up, I took it out and there were lots of dry solder joints on the plug. re-soldered it and it was faultless after that.

A car I’m working on now has an immobiliser, and I’ve bought the factory bypass plug.

But if you’re “over there” and getting the plug will take a while, I know I also read something at the time I was researching this about which wires to bypass. It might give you a short term fix while waiting for the plug to arrive - which is not expensive, and makes the job a lot neater.

I’d PM if I’d kept that info, or where I found it, but once a realised a plug was easily available I’m afraid I didn’t make a note. Donald

Honestly, a Google for “300Tdi immobiliser bypass” will do the job. On this side of the pond it throws up lots of results. Donald
